Frequently Asked Questions

Please note local pickup is not offered for orders placed through our website.

Orders
Due to Australian quarantine rules our seeds and tubers cannot be shipped to Tasmania, Western Australia, the Northern Territory or internationally.

Once an order is placed, it cannot be altered. A new order will need to be placed, with a new freight charge. Unfortunately I am unable to combine shipping on multiple orders.

Items in your cart are NOT confirmed until payment is made. Items may disappear from your cart as other customers select the same items and complete their transactions before you.

This is not a pre-sale. Tubers will be shipped in order of transactions placed, packed & posted as quickly as possible between two little farmers and farm life. These tubers are eyed up, and some even sprouted, so please be very careful opening the tuber bags. Orders will be shipped September - December with visible eyes to ensure tuber viability. Tubers will be packaged very carefully to avoid damage in vermiculite in brown paper bags and labelled. Feather & Hive Farmhouse holds no responsibility for tubers post shipping.

Once orders are sent, a tracking number will be provided. On arrival check tubers and store in ideal conditions or plant, if all risks of frosts have past.

When are dahlia tubers available for sale?

Tubers will be available for sale in early spring, once they have woken up ready to plant- Until then they will be shown as ‘out of stock’ in the online store.

Please note that the availability of the varieties may change on our website once tubers are checked and out of storage- Some cultivars currently listed on our website may be removed prior to the sale as we count and check the quality of the tubers.

We are a micro flower farm, the dahlia varieties in our store will be our excess stock. Not all dahlia varieties we grow will be for sale. Website may be updated at random when tuber eyes are showing.

You can be the first to know about when our dahlia tubers will be on sale by our facebook or instagram posts.

Dahlia Seeds

Seeds will be packed and shipped in time for customers to start seeds for the 2023 / 2024 dahlia season.

Will seeds produce the same variety of Dahlia as the flower they came from?

No. Unlike with a tuber, where the "child" plant (a Dahlia Tuber) will be genetically identical to the parent, Dahlia seeds will produce a new, genetically distinct plant.

This new plant will likely have some traits inherited from both the plant that produced the flower your seed came from, and the plant who's flower produced the pollen that fertilized it.

With Dahlia seeds you never know what you're going to get, and that's part of the surprise!

Dahlias started from seed will flower in the first season & create a small tuber clump that like tuber grown dahlias can be dug, lifted, divided in winter and grown the following season. It is recommended to grow dahlias from seeds for 3 years as the initial flower can change.

Dahlia Tubers

Stock is very limited, We grow all our tubers here on our farm. The dahlia patch is always extending.

Some cultivars on our website may not be available at the time of sale, as we count and check for eyes and our own planting requirements. Tuber sales are the excess of my planting needs; I’d love to grow them all.

Please note we have not washed any tubers this season (the photos showing different sizes are what the tubers will look like, this can be found on “DAHLIA CARE GUIDE” link above) and they have stored better. We do not sell “mother” tubers.

Some tubers have a limit of ONE per household, this is to share rarer cultivars with all- We will refund any additional orders on these varieties.

All dahlias are grown by myself and triple checked by myself when packed making sure tubers have eyes and tubers themselves are in good shape. Please note dahlia tubers come in all different shapes and sizes. Size does not matter for plant size or flowers. Small or tiny tubers are said to grow better with more roots. I grew “Powder Puff” in 2022 from a huge tuber and at the end of the season it did NOT produce any child tubers.

Please advise of any damage or concerns immediately & within the first 2 days of your order arriving by email: featherandhive@outlook.com

Dahlia tuber growing is subject to many environmental factors including weather, soil types, over/under watering, pests and storage. A simple How to grow dahlias can be found in the link at the top of the page.

All cultivars are grown and divided by us at Feather & Hive Farmhouse - to the best of our ability we have had no signs of virus from our collection. Dahlia viruses can show when the plants are under stress and also be transmitted from other plants and weeds in & around your growing area. We will offer no refunds for any plant that shows signs of Dahlia virus, as this is an environmental factor.

Each Tuber will contain at least one eye.

Refunds, returns and replacements are not accepted 2 days after delivery of your purchase.

Feather & Hive Farmhouse cannot be held accountable for the following with regards to dahlia tubers:
